Robert D. “Moe” Hughes Sr. a lifelong resident of Niles passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at 9:15 a.m. in his residence surrounded by his family. He was 84 years old.
Robert was born in his family home on North Bentley Ave. in Niles on March 15, 1935, the son of the late Raleigh and Irene Orend Hughes.
Bob attended Niles City Schools. Following school, he proudly served our country in the United States Army stationed in Korea.
Bob owned and operated Robert D. Hughes Builders for over 40 years.
He was a member of Niles First Christian Church. Bob and his brother Richard were the first twins to be members of the former Niles Lodge 627 Loyal order of the Moose. He was passionate about many things in life, especially spending time outdoors and making memories with his family. When Bob was participating in the various hobbies outdoors, his family was right there beside him. Whether it was boating, waterskiing, hunting, motocross, archery shoots, etc.. Bob loved being active with family and friends and cherished these times.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Virginia “Ginny” Planton Hughes, whom he married May 18, 1957; a daughter, Vickie Christie of Niles; 3 sons, Robert Jr. (Marilyn) Hughes of Fowler, Jeff (Wendy) Hughes of Hubbard, and David (Teri) Hughes of Niles; 14 grandchildren, Bobby, Tori, Jeff Jr., Craig, Nicole, David, and Dana Hughes, Alecia (Vincent) Hughes, TJ, Courtney, and Chelsey Christie, Tara (Jason) Harland, Daniel and Michael Delliquadri; and 5 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his twin brother Richard Hughes; a brother Raleigh Hughes Jr.; and a sister, Imogene Sprague.
