Betty J. Scherer

Betty J. Scherer of Niles passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at 11:45 p.m. in Continuing Healthcare of Niles. She was 88.

Betty was born in Mineral Ridge on April 21, 1932, the daughter of the late Archibald and Erma Riegle Miller.

She was a 1950 graduate of Mineral Ridge High School. Mrs. Scherer was employed for over 37 years in the General Electric Lamp Plant in Warren. She retired in 1988.

Her first husband, Melvin Chapman, whom she married in 1953, passed away in 1978. Betty’s second husband, Richard Scherer whom she married in 1979, passed away in 2008.

Betty is survived by 3 daughters, Linda Sue Scherer of Alexandria, VA, Lynn (Dave) Hayes of Cortland, OH, and Mindy (John) Devorich of Niles; 2 sons, Joe (Mary) Caizza of Lordstown and Dr. James (Nancy) Scherer of Tampa, FL; 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and two husbands, Betty was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
