Donald Burks Sr. of Niles passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 11:48 a.m. in his residence. He was 76.
Donald was born in Cleveland, OH on May 2, 1943, the son of the late Walter and Addie Bell Burks Sr.
He was a graduate of Cleveland State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree.
He proudly served our country in the United States Navy and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Mr. Burks was employed for 20 years as an engineer at ABB in New Brunswick, NJ.
He was a member of the VFW Post 2074, Free & Accepted Masons and the Elks Lodge in New Jersey. Earlier in life, Donald enjoyed running, swimming and tennis. He also was active in his children’s life, coaching various youth sports for them. Following retirement, Mr. Burks spent his time volunteering in various events throughout the area. Most importantly he cherished his family and friends.
Donald is survived by a daughter, Andrea Burks of Pennsylvania; 3 sons, Carl (Dee Dee) Mahan of Ohio, Donald Burks Jr. of New Jersey and Mark Burks of New Jersey; 2 brothers, Robert and Jerome Burks both of Ohio; 5 grandchildren, Brittnay, Aniyah, Jalen, Noel, and Jace. He is also survived by his former wife and lifelong friend, Gloria Burks and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Ms. Dolly Moton, Ms. Dorothy McCoy, and Ms. Barbara Burks: 3 brothers, Walter Burks Jr., Alfred Burks, and Wilbert Burks.

At Donald’s request there will be no calling hours or funeral services. A memorial service with military honors will be held at a later date.
