Dorothy Cox of Warren, formerly of Portage County where she lived until 4 years ago, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at 10:45 a.m. in Shepherd of The Valley – Liberty. She was 96.
Dorothy was born in Red Ashe, VA on December 10, 1927, the daughter of the late Edward L. and Virgie Smith Short.
She was a loving homemaker and enjoyed living life to the fullest. Dorothy enjoyed golfing, lying in the sun, playing cards, coloring, as well as traveling. She had a love of fancy drinks if they were in a pretty cup. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren.
Dorothy will be greatly missed by her children, Roy (Carol) Cox of Hendersonville, NC, Brigette (Calvin) Sneed of Howland, and Terrie (Todd) DeGroff of Randolph; 7 grandchildren, Derrick (Amanda) Cox, Ryan (Dawn) Cox, Tim (Genevive) Adelman, Keith Watts, Dee Dee Scovern, Kristen (Josh) Wirth, Matthew (Lauren) DeGroff; 11 great grandchildren, Riley, Shelby, Madison, Mackenzie Cox, Aiden, Averie, Bennett Adelman, Keith III, Jazlynn Watts, Gillian (Spencer) Kilcrease, and Chase Scovern; and a great great granddaughter, Aurora Sage Grace Kilcrease.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Roy Cox who she married on February 28, 1946, and passed away on December 17, 1996; and 3 siblings, Thelma “Toots” Jones, Irene Looney, and Claude “Buck” Short.
