Jessie Rider

Jessie Rider, 91, formally of Warren Ohio, passed away peacefully at Riverside Manor Nursing Home in Newcomerstown, OH on Sunday February 24, 2019. The daughter of Raymond and Anne (Howard) O’Byrne was born on December 27, 1927 in Warren, Ohio.

She grew up and lived most of her life in the Newton Falls - Warren area and graduated from Newton Falls High School. She married John C. Rider and together they raised three sons. Jessie worked until her retirement as an Executive Assistant at the Ravenna Arsenal. She was an active member of her church, the First Church of God, and was the secretary for the church’s women’s bowling league for many years. Jessie was active in the Police Wives Organization as its secretary because she had several family members who were law enforcement officers in Warren and the surrounding communities. She enjoyed her large family gatherings, she was one of 12 children, particularly at the O’Byrne Family Reunion held each summer around the 4th of July.

Memories of Jessie will be carried on by her son; John W. Rider of New Philadelphia and sister; Genevieve Maggiano of Warren; and her friends from the First Church of God in Newton Falls; and those who remember her from the Police Wives Organization.

Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John C. Rider in 1989; sons Billy Rider, and Larry Rider; and most of her siblings have passed as well.

Jessie requested no fanfare or anything special so her wishes were a simple family gathering and service and to be laid rest next to her husband John. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 28, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm with the service to follow at McFarland-Barbee Family Funeral Home.
