Joseph A. “June Bug” Gentile Jr. of Niles passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021 at 12:35 p.m. in Mercy Health – St. Joseph Warren Hospital. He was 75 years old.
Joe was born on April 19, 1946 in Warren, the son of the late Joseph A. Sr. and Angeline Toriello Gentile.
He was a 1964 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and was always proud of being part of the 1961 and 1963 State Championship Football Team. Following high school, Joe matriculated to Youngstown State University where he earned a Bachelor of Business Degree. In addition to his college degree Mr. Gentile obtained his insurance license through the state of Ohio.
Earlier in life, Joe was employed for the Cleveland City School System in their financial and bookkeeping department. He was an insurance agent with American General for over 25 years prior to his retirement.
Joe was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish. June Bug as he was affectionately known by his friends and family had an amazing ability to work on and perfect many different projects, from woodworking to the intricate pieces on model cars. He enjoyed a good game of golf and was an avid supporter of the Cleveland Browns and Indians. He prepared wonderful meals for his family. Joe loved animals and will be sadly missed by his boxer mastiff mix, Ja-Zell. During his years in grade school, Joe was active in baseball and boy scouts.
He is survived by his wife, Louiseann “Wezee” Gentile, whom he married April 28, 1979; a sister, RoseMarie (Jack) DelBene of Girard; 3 nieces, Nicole (Jason) Cole, Michelle Surak, and Laura Dockery; a former brother-in-law, Joseph Surak Jr.; He is also survived by numerous great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanne Eldridge; a brother in law Richard Eldridge; his in-laws, Louis and Carmen Collura.

A funeral service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2021 in the funeral home.
Internment will be in Niles City Cemetery
