Mary Ellen Csernik

Mary Ellen Csernik of Boardman passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 11:37 a.m. in Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Main Campus. She was 85 years old.

Mary Ellen was born in Struthers on September 2, 1935, the daughter of the late James and Jessie Lenney Casey.

She was a graduate of Niles McKinley High School. Earlier in life she was employed at the former Packard Electric. After she met the love of her life, Mary Ellen became a loving wife, mother, and homemaker.

Mrs. Csernik was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. She enjoyed being around a table with those close to her playing bingo and cards. Mary Ellen was always known to be spirited and a little feisty, she let you know where you stood and those around her knew how much she loved them. Most of all she loved sitting on the porch with her husband surrounded by family and friends, catching up on the days events or telling old stories about the neighborhood.

Her husband Stephen Csernik met while at a local dance. They were married on May 24, 1958 and he passed on February 20, 2007.

She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia (David) Benko of Boardman; 4 sons, Richard (Daniela) Csernik of Boardman, James Csernik of Boardman, William Csernik and his fiancé Debbie of Howland, and Kevin Csernik of Boardman; a sister, Elizabeth Budrevich; 2 brothers, Charles and James Casey; 8 grandchildren, James Csernik Jr, Stephen and Nicholas Csernik, Shiann Fiorentino and Gavin Csernik, Jenna and Jared Benko, Daniel Csernik, as well as 3 great grandchildren, Ava and Ana Csernik and Landon Fiorentino.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by 2 sons, Thomas and Lawrence Csernik; 4 sisters, Doris, Shirley, Vera, and Eileen; 3 brothers, Bill, Tom, and Dave.

A mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Sorrows Parish 915 Cornell Ave. Youngstown, OH 44502. Calling hours will be one hour prior to mass in the church.
