Doug enlisted in the US Marine Corps Reserve Unit at Brookpark, Ohio and graduated from boot camp in August 1987 in Paris Island, SC. He served with his unit during the first Gulf War and also in Norway on training assignments. Doug was promoted to Lance Corporal. Doug later worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation, where he was there 17 years. He was very supportive of animal rights and a supporter of the ASPCA, Lost and Found Dogs of Youngstown, and the Trumbull County Pet Forum group. He would be seen often at Austintown and Howland dog parks with his Bull Plot Hound, Wilma. Besides loving animals, he loved listening to music and enjoyed family gatherings and outings.
