Paul L Wilson

Warren, OH – Paul L. Wilson, 95, of Howland, passed away on July 17, 2018, at Shepherd of the Valley Howland.  He was born in Warren, Ohio on August 22, 1922 to the late Harry C. and Clara N. Grose Wilson.  He was a lifelong resident of Warren. Paul graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1940 and completed a BS Degree in Education at Wittenberg College in 1948.  Paul served in the US Navy from 1942-1946 as a Hospital Corpsman at various medical installations in the US and aboard the USS Maryland during the invasion of Okinawa during WWII where he attained the rate of Pharmacist Mate First Class. After his military service he was employed with Brainard Strapping Div. of Sharon Steel Corporation, retiring as a Manager of Customer Services after 35 years.

He was involved in many organizations over the years starting in his college years. At Wittenberg, Paul was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, Kappa Phi Kappa (Honorary Education Fraternity) and Pi Sigma Alpha (Honorary Political Science Fraternity).  He was a proud member of the Stephen Foster Chorus of the Warren Barbershoppers for 33 years and often traveled around the US and Canada to attend conventions and concerts. Paul was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. During his many years as a member he served on Church Council, as President of the congregation, on numerous church committees, taught Sunday School for 20 years, and was a member of the choir for 75 years. He was a past member of the Order of the Elks #295.  He loved to travel, play golf, and volunteer for many community activities.

After his discharge from the Navy, Paul returned home to Warren and married Sarah Louise Carbaugh Wilson on March 2, 1946.  He is survived by his wife; sons, Mark (Marie-Armande) of Ann Arbor, MI and John (Patti) of Cortland; grandsons, Joshua (Sarah) of Chicago, IL/Berlin, Germany and Matthew of Rimrock, AZ; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  Paul was preceded by his parents, and sisters; Anne L. Lange and Kathryn Klingeman.

A memorial service will be 11:00 AM Friday, July 27, 2018, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where Pastor Frank Gore will officiate.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Paul’s memory to: the Memorial Fund at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hospice of the Valley, or Shepherd of the Valley Foundation.
