Richard Ray Hughes

March 15, 1935 — June 4, 2018

Richard Ray Hughes of Niles passed away on Monday, June 4 at 5:42 a.m. in Niles. He was 83.

Mr. Hughes was born in Niles on March 15, 1935, the son of the late Raleigh and Irene Oren Hughes.

Richard was a graduate of Niles McKinley High School. He was owned and operated a local plumbing company for many years, following his retirement Richard was employed at A to Z Plumbing as a plumber and estimator. He spoke fondly of his years working for A to Z.

Mr. Hughes was an active member of Woodland Park United Methodist Church in McDonald where he was a member of the men’s club, assisted with maintenance and was a lay minister for many years. Earlier in life, Richard was a former member of the local Moose and Eagles Club. Richard was passionate about Tennis and Baseball, he also enjoyed a good round of golf, shooting hoops and bowling.

Richard proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

His wife, Donna Marlene Frazier, whom he married in 1967 passed away in 2013.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Tracy Soda and her companion Louie Padula of Niles, and Terry Hughes of Niles; 1 son, Frank “Buddy” (Robin) Estes of Girard; a twin brother, Robert (Ginny) Hughes of Niles; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a daughter in law, Sandy Estes.

In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was preceded in death by a son, John W. “Skip” Estes; a brother Raleigh C. Hughes Jr.; a sister Imogene Jean (Lyle) Sprague.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Woodland Park United Methodist Church 601 Ohio Ave. McDonald, OH 44437.

At Richard’s request there will not be calling hours. Full military honors and inurnment will take place in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery 10175 Rawiga Rd. Seville, OH 44273.
