Virginia L. Phillips

Virginia Louise Bachmann Phillips, 87, of 300 Center West, Champion, Ohio, died at home on July 8, 2004 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born November 22,1916 in Bellair, Ohio the daughter of Henry and Hattie Sechrest Bachmann. She graduated from St. John's High School in Bellaire on June 9, 1935. She taught 4th grade at St. John's School and worked as a governess in Belmont County Children's Home in Tacoma, Ohio. She married Edward F. Phillips, Jr. on November 2, 1941 and he preceded her in death on December 15, 1965.

Virginia was Past President of Champion VIP Club, Past President of Trumbull NAIM Club, and Secretary for 12 years for the Senior Mixed Bowling League. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and spending time with her family.

She is survived by nine children: Edward F. Phillips III of Kissimmee, FL; Patricia (Cecil) Bessman of PierPoint, OH; Ella (Cal) Carlton of Bakersfield, CA; William (Gayle) Phillips of Garrettsville, OH; John, (Diane) Phillips of Champion, OH; Lorraine (Stan) Rolf of Bainbridge, OH; Charles (Linda) Phillips of Niceville, FL; Mary (Rick) Lawrence of Champion, OH; and Pamela (Kenny) Dillon of Champion, OH; 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters Henrietta Bachmann of Chevy Chase, MD and Agnes Coggins of Camarillo, CA and many nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Joseph and Edward Bachmann, and two sisters Catherine Cash and Mary Jenkins.

Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, July 10, 2004 at her church home for 42 years: St. William's Catholic Church, 5431 Mahoning Ave., Warren, Ohio 44483, with Fr. Michael Smar officiating. Friends may call 5:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at McFarland and Son Funeral Home, 271 North Park Avenue, Warren, Ohio 44481. Friends may also call at the church an hour before the service. Interment will follow the service at All Souls Cemetery.
