Ada (Blume) Hrabowy

January 20, 1931 — September 2, 2020

Warren

Ada Blume Hrabowy was reunited in heaven with her adoring husband when she peacefully departed this life surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday September 2, 2020 at 3:03pm at Hospice of the Valley’s Hospice House in Poland, Ohio. She was 89 years old.

Ada was born on January 20, 1931 in Bellavista, Callao, Peru, the eldest daughter of the late Karl Blume and Ada Viacava Blume. She graduated from Maria Auxiliadora High School and was an elementary school teacher before she met and married the love of her life, Franz Hrabowy on February 5, 1956. Together they immigrated from Peru to the United States after they married to start a family in Warren, Ohio. Due to her unselfish love and longing for her family after she left her native country, she opened up her home bringing numerous family members from Peru to the United States over the years to share with them her success, new found citizenship and the American dream.

Ada was proud of her Latin and German descent and upbringing as well as the creative and artistic genes she inherited from her father and passed on to her children. She was a self-taught and accomplished pianist, artist and seamstress. Ada initially taught Spanish lessons, then also sewing lessons when she first came to this country. She became an entrepreneur and the owner and operator of Ada’s Fashions and then Fashions by Ada in a joint venture with Midwest Band, where she designed and manufactured custom-made marching band uniforms. She also co-owned and operated Grunge to Glam, a graphic design and printing company with her husband.

Ada took great joy in making special occasion outfits for her children when they were young and did the same for each of her grandchildren.  She always worked with her hands and enjoyed playing classical music on the piano, creating pencil portraits, painting, sculpting, and knitting. She was also skilled in the kitchen and proudly shared her treasured recipes from her native country with her children, which are the staple and most enjoyed meals at family gatherings. Ada felt it was important to exercise her mind too. She had a passion for reading novels and keeping up with politics, learned to use the internet, took online German classes and was always searching for someone with whom she could practice her German. Her favorite quote for which she lived by was “Don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today.” Ada loved babies, especially her grandchildren, who endearingly called her Oma. Her pets were also an important part of her life and she became an avid bird watcher in her later years.

Left to cherish her memory, replicate the customs and traditions she taught and carry on her impressive legacy are four daughters, Greta (Tom) Baker of Howland, Jeanette (Tony) Janoso of Lone Tree, CO, Magda (James) Mauri of Howland, and Michelle (Bill) Campana of Howland; a son, Harold (Sandra) Hrabowy of Liberty; two sisters, Magda Blume and Sonia Valle; a brother Karl “Chico” Blume; 14 grandchildren, Alina (Todd) Kaden, Andrew Baker, Hope, Amani, Johnah, and Dakota Hrabowy, Rachael, Alex, Britni and Anthony Janoso, Angelo and Vincent Mauri, Isabella and Sophia Campana; and a great-grandchild, Thomas Kaden.

In addition to her parents, Ada was preceded in death by her husband, Franz Hrabowy, who passed away on May 24, 2019, five siblings and a grandchild, Matthew Baker.
