She was born in Churchill (Liberty) on May 18, 1922, the only child of Edward and Anna Clemens Balley.

Betty was a graduate of Youngstown City School System

She met her husband Lawrence Drennen at the roller rink in Youngstown, and on July 30, 1945 they were married. They moved to Warren, where they built their life, and raised 2 sons, Gary Sr. and Eddie Drennen. They spent 72 years together before his passing in 2018.

Left to carry on her memory is her son Gary Drennen Sr. of Warren. Her grandchildren, Gary Jr. (Adora) Drennen of West Farmington, Holly Rivera, Regina Drennen, Billy (Susan) Drennen, Amy Drennen, Janelle (Chris) Lewis of Cortland and Garrett Kelsh of Warren. Great Grandchildren, John (Kristen) Drennen, Coty Black, Courtney Black, Madison Kagy, and her namesake, Alea Jane Drennen. Great Great Grandchildren, Isla and Caden Drennen.
