Darlene Mae Proffit of Boardman passed away after a short illness on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 6:35 a.m. at Hospice House in Poland. She was 70.

Darlene was born on November 11, 1949 in Philipsburg, PA, the daughter of the late Clayton and Norma Schnarrs Brown.

She was of Christian Faith.

Mrs. Proffit was a graduate of The Rayen School. Following high school, Darlene worked at Industrial Engine delivering parts. While working there, she met her husband, Eugene Proffit Sr., who proceeded her in death in November of 2010. After leaving Industrial Engine, Darlene began her career as a correctional officer working for many years at Community Corrections.

Darlene enjoyed playing cards online with her friends and occasionally gambling.  She was a gun enthusiast and also a proud concealed carry card holder. She enjoyed traveling to Tennessee while visiting her husband’s family. She was T.V. enthusiast and loved watching court T.V. and especially loved Price is Right. Even during her illness, she was known to clutch her remote, eat her ice chips and watch her favorite show. She loved her family and enjoyed making memories with them.

She is survived by her 2 stepdaughters, Erika Proffit of Youngstown and Brynn and her husband Eric Boyce of Masury; a stepson, Chip Proffit and his companion Kara Sweeney of Youngstown; 2 sisters, Linda Doxstater and Rena Hull both of Philipsburg, PA; 2 brothers, Larry Brown of Philipsburg, PA and LeRoy Brown of Stormstown, NJ; and 2 granddaughters, Elaina and Brooklyn Boyce.

In addition to her parents and husband, Darlene was proceeded in death by her Uncle Alvin “Slu” Schnarrs and Lois Cayle, both who raised her from a young age, brothers Ed Schnarrs, Walter Brown, and George Brown, and sisters Dianne Evans and Joyce Marshall.

A funeral service will follow on Monday, February 10, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Entombment will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
