Dorothy J. Dunmire

Dorothy J. Dunmire, a lifelong resident of Niles, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 4:45 a.m. in the Hospice House. She was 97.

Dorothy was born at home in Niles on September 18, 1923, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary Thornton Lambing.

She was a graduate of Niles McKinley High School. Dorothy retired in 1978 from Packard Electric, where she worked on the wiring harness assembly line.

Mrs. Dunmire was a member of St. Stephens Church. Dorothy volunteered for 18 years at Trumbull Memorial Hospital and 24 years for the Red Cross. Dorothy sang for 15 years in the SCOPE Senior Choir. Mrs. Dunmire enjoyed playing various card games with friends and families. Dorothy was a thrill seeker and even more so in her later years. Nothing could hold her back. She enjoyed waterskiing and parasailing, ziplines and cruises with her grandchildren and traveling in general. She loved the rush of a rollercoaster and hot air balloons at 90 years old. Most importantly her friends and family meant the world to her and she cherished the time she spent with them.

Her husband, Carl C. Dunmire, whom she married July 16, 1942, passed away on January 1, 2000.

She is survived by a son, Donald Dunmire and his fiancé Yvonne Witt of Niles; 8 grandchildren, Larry, Brian, Jill, Michelle, Jared, Aimee, Kari, and Adam. She is also survived by numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and great great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a son, Larry K. Dunmire; 5 sisters, Mary, Agnes, Kathryn, Florence, and Rita; a brother Joseph.

At Dorothy’s request due to the current health crisis, a private service was held at an earlier date. Anyone that would like to pay their respects to Dorothy can do so at Green Haven Memorial Gardens where she has been laid to rest next to her husband.
