Dorothy "Dottie" Farrell

February 26, 1927 — April 11, 2020

Aurora

Dorothy “Dottie” Farrell, age 93, of Aurora, Ohio, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 11, 2020, while at Independence Village of Aurora.  She was the beloved wife of James Y. Farrell, whom she married August 20, 1949, and who passed away on October 19, 2003.  She was also preceded in death by infant son James Roy (Jimmy) Farrell, son David Young Farrell and two brothers Paul and Bob Kimpel.

Dottie was born in Clarington, OH, on February 26, 1927, the daughter of the late Roy S. and Nellie Yockey Kimpel.

She attended the Warren, Ohio school system and furthered her education at Ohio University earning a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, while belonging to Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority.

Dottie, who had a contagious smile and infectious laughter, was loved beyond measure.  To know Dottie is to love Dottie.  She was happiest when she was with her family gathered together.  She made a warm and welcoming home for all who entered.  She loved flowers, music, cooking (trying and saving many recipes), entertaining, sharing stories and giggling with family, friends, and caregivers.  She will be remembered dearly by those who knew her because of her compassion, care, and unconditional love for all she met.

While living in Warren, she volunteered as a Pink Lady at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, and was also a member of Christian Women’s Club where she led Bible studies for many years.  Most importantly, Dottie knew the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, and was an active member of First United Methodist, and later North-Mar Church in Warren.  Most recently, Dottie enjoyed the Monday morning Bible study at Independence Village, offered to residents by Parkside Church; and Sunday morning worship services provided by Freedom Fellowship of NE Ohio.

Dottie is survived by four daughters, Nancy (George) Petak of Monument, CO, Audrey Taylor of Warren, Trish (Brian) Landsman of Chagrin Falls, and Barb (Jim) Thomas of Westerville; 11 grandchildren -- Brian (Heidi), Todd (Shannon), Meigan (Armando); Paul (Jill), Becca (Mike), Joe (Lydia), Ethan; Lauren, Melissa; Heather (Sam), and David; 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren and loving nieces & nephews.  She is also survived by sister-in-law, Kadey Kimpel, and daughter-in-law Dar Zingale.

Dottie’s family would like to recognize and express their appreciation for the loving care given to her by the staff at Independence Village, many of whom became like family during the 10 years she lived there. They would also like to give special recognition to Crossroads Hospice NEO who provided wonderfully compassionate care to Dottie in her final days.
