Herbert "Herbie" M. Holbrook

Herbert “Herbie” M. Holbrook of Niles passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 4:03 p.m. in his residence. He was 62.

Herbie was born on July 14, 1957 in Youngstown, the son of the late Victor P. Holbrook Sr. and Billie Ruth Newton Holbrook.

He was a 1976 graduate of Niles McKinley High School.  Mr. Holbrook held various jobs throughout his life, from working across the United States in pipeline construction to a corrections officer for the Niles City Police Department. Herbie retired in 2012 after 30 years of employment at Bob Evans as a kitchen prep.

Mr. Holbrook was a loving and kindhearted man. Everything that defined him as a person was his generosity and being surrounded by his family and friends. He did for others and expected nothing in return. He loved working outside on his yard, not only cutting his grass but he would also cut the neighbors. He loved animals and looked forward to taking his dog for walks around the neighborhood. Most importantly he cherished the memories he made with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Herbie is survived by his wife, Desiree Chalop Holbrook, whom he married July 10, 1977. They recently celebrated 42 loving years of marriage together; a son, Durango (Shawna) Holbrook of Dayton, OH; 3 brothers, Ralph E. (Diane) Holbrook of Austintown, Victor (Kim) Holbrook Jr. of Niles, and Timothy Holbrook of Niles; a sister, Carol Rossi of Boardman; 2 grandchildren, Isabelle and Annabelle.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Family will also receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2019 in the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall 152 North Rd. Niles, OH 44446. A talk will be given at 1:00 p.m. by David Ritter.
