John H. Davis of Niles passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 in the ICU of Mercy Health St. Joseph Warren Hospital following a long battle with cancer. He was 78 years old.
John was born in Warren on December 24, 1941, the son of the late Howard “Lefty” and Healen White Davis.
Mr. Davis was a 1959 graduate of Niles McKinley High School. Following high school, John furthered his education at Youngstown State University where he earned a degree in electrical engineering. Following graduation, Mr. Davis matriculated to Case University where he obtained a degree in engineering.
He retired in 1992 as the senior systems engineer for the IBM Corporation. John could not stay retired long. He went on to work for Telxon Corporation in Akron and as a Commercial Appraiser.
He was of Catholic faith. John was an avid sports fan, you could find him cheering on the Ohio State Buckeye’s, the Cleveland Indians, and the Detroit Lions. He also loved spending time with his dog Sasha. John always strived to make a difference in other’s lives, one particular way was being elected 3 times to the Niles Board of Education.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Obratil Davis, whom he married November 4, 1967; 3 daughters, Caroline Hines of Niles, Marilyn (Jeff) Zarka of Franklin, WI and Kristin Cole of Columbus, OH; a sister, Karen Berencsi of Mineral Ridge, OH; 3 brothers, Paul (Ann) Davis of Niles, Charles Davis of Niles, and Jim (Janet) Davis of Cortland; 5 grandchildren, Ashley (Seth) Trimble, John Hines, Madelynn Zarka, Jeffrey Zarka, and Ronald Cole; 2 great grandchildren, Jack Trimble and Ella Trimble; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Brian Hines.
