John Joseph Gula

John Joseph Gula of Niles passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 8:27 p.m. in the Ashtabula County Medical Center. He was 73 years old.

John was born on November 28, 1947 in Rochester, PA, the son of George and Kathryn Vondruska Gula.

He was a graduate of Beaver High School in Pennsylvania. Following high school, John furthered his education at Penn State University, where he earned his Associates Degree of Mechanical Engineering.

Mr. Gula retired in 2006 after 27 years of employment with Delphi, the former Packard Electric. For most of his career, John was an accomplished millwright.  Nearing his retirement, he transferred to an office position to review drafts prior to production.

John was a member of St. Roberts Church in Cortland. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially with a fishing pole in hand by his favorite fishing spot. You could find John tinkering on cars in his garage or relaxing while researching his family’s genealogy. He cherished the memories he made with his family, especially cheering on his grandchildren at the various sports they played. Earlier in life, John loved being on two wheels with the wind in his hair, while riding his Gold Wing. Most of all, John was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan; through good and bad you could find him cheering on his team every weekend with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Debbie Gula; his 3 children, Chris (Niki) of Richmond, KY, Lonnie (Mark) Isenberg of Cortland, and Vince (Meridith) of Streetsboro; 7 grandchildren, Katie (Cole) Hoffman, Johnny Gula, Isabella and Madeline Isenberg, Brooke, Jackson, and Leo Gula; numerous nieces and nephews, and life-long best friends, Pete (Judy) Wozniak.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by 4 siblings, George Gula, Barbara Beegle, Frank Gula, and Judy Bogovich.

Calling hours will be on Saturday, May 1, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Wm Nicholas Funeral Home & Cremation Services 614 Warren Ave. Niles, OH 44446. The family invites you to wear black and gold in honor of John’s passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

A memorial service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2021 in the funeral home.
