John Douglas McIver

John Douglas McIver of Niles passed away on Friday, December 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in his residence. He was 72.

John was born in Hazlehurst, GA on January 5, 1947, the son of the late John D. and Lillie Mae Curry McIver.

He was employed at Holly Hill Health Care where he was a nursing assistant for 28 years. John took great pride in the work he did. Earlier in life, John was the bass player for the band Law. A band that originated in Youngstown Ohio and traveled with other rock bands throughout the seventies.

Mr. McIver was of Southern Baptist Faith. He had a true passion for music and was very talented in different aspects of the industry. John loved playing bingo, and the day before he passed, he was able to go and play one last game. He enjoyed fishing and being outdoors working in his yard. Family was everything to him. He cherished the memories that he made with them, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Penrose McIver, whom he married in 1987; 2 daughters, Kim (Joseph) Shaker of Champion and Kelli Oliver and her significant other Edward R. King of Warren; 2 sons, Dino (Tracey) Oliver of Niles and Shawn Oliver of Niles; 2 sisters, Annie Pearl Smith, Betty Jean Yarborough; a brother, Bobby McIver; 2 sisters-in-law, Shirley Marie McIver and Yvonne McIver; a brother-in-law, Keith Kirksey; 5 grandchildren, Anthony, Cameron, Mia, Milania, and Zayne. John is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a grandchild, Jordan; 4 brothers, Ulysses McLead, Clarence McIver, Willie C. McIver, Jimmy McIver; 5 sisters, Ruby Nell McIver, Savannah Bell-Harris, Mamie Elizabeth Summer, Evangelist Irene Kirksey, Johnnie Mae Jacobs-Barney.
