Juan Tomas Fuentes of Niles passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at 9:05 a.m. in Trumbull Regional Medical Center. He was 81.

Juan was born in Arroyo, Puerto Rico on November 25, 1938, the son of the late Julio Tomas Fuentes and Ramona Sanchez de Fuentes.

Following High School Mr. Fuentes proudly served our country in the United States Army.

He retired after over 30 years as a truck driver for Signal Delivery Service. During this time, Juan was very involved in local, regional, and national truck driving rodeos starting out as a driver competing in events, to judging, and eventually assisting with running the events themselves.

Following his retirement, Juan drove school bus for Valley Christian School. He was their first ever and only bus driver for 6 years.  Juan enjoyed driving the student athletes’ grades 7-12 to all of their sporting events, as well as taking K-12 students on field trips throughout the school year.  This past year, he was asked to take on a roll as Ambassador for VCS Athletics, where he assisted with home game events.

Juan and his wife were members of the GWTA & GWRRA Honda Goldwing Association, through the club they the wonderful opportunity of traveling while riding heir Honda Goldwing.

Juan greatly appreciated Veterans Day and greatly enjoyed leading the students at VCS in the pledge of allegiance at their annual Veterans Day Assembly.

His wife, Patricia Fuentes whom he married June 21, 1996, passed away on October 19, 2017.

He is survived by a son Juan Fuentes II of Columbus; 3 daughters, Gina Blevins of St. Augustine, FL, Vicki DeMotte Columbus, OH, and Cathy Thrush Columbus, OH; 3 step children, Richard (Amy) Shenal Jr. of Brunswick, OH, Jody Shenal of Niles, and Michael Shenal of Columbus; 1 sister Norka Fuentes of San Juan, Puerto Rico and 2 brothers, Gustavo Fuentes of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Carlos Fuentes of Tampa, Florida; 3 grandchildren, Anthony Thrush, S. Blake Blevins, and Ty Blevins; 2 great grandchildren, Kenly Thrush and Kendyl Thrush.

In addition to his parents and wife, Juan was preceded in death by a brother, Roberto Fuentes; a sister Sonya Fuentes.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Wm Nicholas Funeral Home & Cremation Services 614 Warren Ave. Niles, OH 44446.

A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 with Fr. James Korda of St. Stephen Church.

Inurnment will take place in Niles City Cemetery.
