Ralph “Sonny” Martin Nicastro, 85, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at 6:21 a.m. in Mercy Health-St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital of a cardiac event following an auto accident.

Son of the late Ralph and Katharine (Bender) Nicastro, Ralph was born on October 7, 1934 in Niles, OH. He attended St. Stephen Elementary School and was a 1952 graduate of Niles McKinley High School. He also attended Youngstown State University after proudly serving his country in the United States Navy. Ralph enlisted in 1952 and served during the Korean War. At the time of his discharge, he was a Petty Officer Third Class in the Radar Division.

In December of 1989, he married Patricia Simms. Together, they spent 30 wonderful years living happily in McDonald, OH.

Ralph worked as a federal air traffic controller at airports located in Youngstown, OH and Lexington, KY before working at U.S. Steel in McDonald and then LTV Coke Plant in Warren until his retirement in December of 1999.

He was of Catholic faith and a loving, kind, and generous husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Ralph enjoyed reading mysteries, traveling, watching Jeopardy, giving things to others, and going to Mountaineer Casino where he always walked away a winner.

Ralph is survived by his wife Patricia Nicastro of McDonald; his daughter, Marti (Terry) Daisy of Brookfield; his stepsons, John (Amy) Cunningham and Steven (Linda) Cunningham both of McDonald; grandchildren, Lauren (John) Thurik, Dewie (Tabitha) Cunningham, Brandon Wibert, and Nathan Cunningham; and his great-grandchildren, Aiden and Alana.

In addition to his parents, Ralph was proceeded in death by his sister, Catherine Adams.

Inurnment will be at Niles City Cemetery.
