Robert G. Bendon

April 28, 1933 — July 16, 2020

Niles

Robert G. Bendon of Niles passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2020 in his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was 87.

Robert was born in Gallitzin, PA on April 28, 1933, the son of the late Clair and Anna Sherokee Bendon.

He was a 1951 graduate of Gallitzin High School. Following high school, Bob proudly served our country in the United States Army as a medic during the Korean Conflict. Over the years, Bob remained close with some of his fellow soldiers, exchanging cards and letters during the holidays.

Mr. Bendon retired in 1987 after 31 years of employment from the former Copperweld Steel where he worked in the west thermal division.

Robert was a member of St. Stephens Church. He loved the outdoors, from hunting to working in his vegetable garden. But his true passion was finding a good fishing hole and spending his day catching fish. Bob was a jack of all trades and talented at most anything he put his mind to. He was especially good at wood working. Earlier in life he bowled on various leagues throughout the area.

He is survived by his wife of 58 wonderful years, Alice Price Bendon, whom he married August 26, 1961; a daughter, Theresa (Frank) Florjancic of Niles; 3 sons, Patrick Bendon of Girard, James (Melissa) Bendon of Liberty Twp., and Robert B. (Michele) Bendon of Girard; a brother, Raymond Bendon of Gallitzin, PA; 5 grandchildren, Rachel, Robert, James, Halle, and Matthew.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a brother, James Francis.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Ohio Living Home & Hospice 6715 Tippecanoe Rd. Canfield, OH 44406.
