Robert M. Slyk of Warren entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 6:52 a.m. in Trumbull Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was 90.

Robert was born on August 10, 1929 in Warren, the son of the late Michael N. and Frances S. Pragacz Slyk.

Robert attended Warren G. Harding High School. Following high school, Robert proudly served our country in the United States Army. After his discharge, he was employed as a Storeroom Clerk for Copperweld Steel for 44 years retiring in 1991.

Robert was married on March 6, 1949 to the love of his life, Norma J. Kennedy, who passed away on March 21, 2017 after 68 beautiful years of marriage.

Robert was a founding member of the former St. Pius X Catholic Church in Warren where he was the former 30-year president of their men’s club.  He also enjoyed his involvement in the bingo and festivals at the church. He was also a member of St. Vincent de Paul pantry.  After the closing of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Bob and his wife, Norma became members of St. John Paul II Parish on North Street in Warren.

Bob enjoyed gardening and tending to his flowers. Most of all, he enjoyed the time that he spent with his family, especially all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he loved greatly.

Robert is survived by a daughter Debbie DeCost of Warren; three grandchildren Steve and his fiancé Felicia DeCost Jr. of Warren; Chad & Tammy DeCost of Newton Falls and Krissy & Christopher Tominey of Warren; seven great grandchildren Chad G. DeCost, Nicholas (Mandi) DeCost, Alex and his fiancé Kendra Tominey, Chase and his fiancé Destiney Tominey, Dalton, Alexis and fiancé Landon and Chad R. DeCost Jr.; and four great-great grandchildren Gianna DeCost, Cash Tominey and Matteo DeCost and Easton Antonell; a brother, Richard “Dick” Slyk of Howland Township. Robert is also survived by a special little girl Peyton.

In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by a son-in-law Steve DeCost Sr.; a great grandson Blake Tominey; 3 sisters Virginia Shine, Pearl Capan, and Barbara J. Balogh.

Calling hours will take place on Friday, January 17, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:20 p.m. in the St. John Paul II Parish on North Street in Warren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2020 at St. John Paul II Parish on North Street in Warren with Fr. Peter Haladej officiating.  Burial will follow in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Robert’s name to Putting Downs First PO Box 81 Southington, OH 44470 in memory of his great grandson Blake.

The family would like to thank the grandchildren, great grandchildren, and the Cardiac Care Unit Nurses at Trumbull Regional Medical Center.
