Stephen Metro Palipchak of Niles passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at 11:55 a.m. in Burton Health Care Center. He was 95.

Mr. Palipchak was born on November 8, 1924 in Koppel, PA, the son of Metro and Anna Pakosh Palipchak.

On June 5, 1943, Stephen enlisted with the U.S. Army as a paratrooper and a carbine expert stationed in Central Europe. During his time in the Army, he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the EAME Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal World War II.

He married Margaret Katherine Koren on April 19, 1947 and they raised their family together until her passing on May 9, 1987.

Stephen worked for Republic Steel as a mechanic for over 44 years until his retirement in 1988.

In his spare time, Stephen enjoyed working with various jobs. He first worked repairing TV’s and later worked for Finelli Plumbing. He enjoyed trips to the casino and tinkering in his garage working on his tractor. If it was snowing, he would spend time plowing the snow and enjoying every minute.

He is survived by his 5 daughters, Margaret Ann (Richard) DeSalvo of Girard, Julie DeSalvo of Salem, Ann Palipchak of Niles, Nancy Miranda of Niles, and Mary Palipchak of Niles; 4 sons, Stephen (Vicky) Palipchak of Niles, Joseph (Denise) Palipchak of Masury, John Palipchak of Niles, and Thomas (Gina) Palipchak of Brookfield; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Stephen was proceeded in death by his parents and wife.

At Stephen’s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service.

Inurnment will be at St. Stephen Cemetery in Niles.
