William P. Dickey

February 17, 1952 — April 3, 2021

Brookfield

William P. Dickey of Brookfield rode off into the sunset at high noon on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Trumbull Regional Medical Center while surrounded by his loving family; or he finally flew the coop and followed through on his threat to move to Maine and not tell them. His family is still unsure. He was 69 years old.
Bill was born on February 17, 1952 in Youngstown, the son of the late Carl E. and Marion Speerbrecher Dickey.
He was a graduate of Matthews High School and furthered his studies by attending Youngstown State University-Dana School of Music. Once he realized a degree in music was probably not going to work out for him, Bill moved on to production at Rad Tank and Welding in Hubbard and then to work for Warren Fabricating and Machining Corporation as their project engineer for over 30 years until his retirement when he became the happiest man alive for about 2 weeks.
Bill was an assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 62 and also served as a trustee and the chairperson of the building committee for the Vienna Fish and Game Club. He was an accomplished bowler and enjoyed golfing. He had a deep love of the outdoors which he passed on to his children and grandchildren, spending as much time as possible fishing with them on his pontoon boat, or sitting in his tree stand with his grandson Jack who could never sit still or keep quiet. However, his hunting buddy and best friend John and his children were far better at quietly sitting still and were like a second family to him over the years.
He was a father to all and never without his moustache or opinion as to the answer to a question. He loved telling his children what they were doing wrong with all their home improvement projects and anything else that he was asked. He always wanted what was best for people and that was how he showed everyone around him his love, by teaching and occasionally swearing. He loved his family most of the time but especially his many grandsons who he found to be cuter than everyone else, and thoroughly entertaining when they were not spending the night.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Poltor Dickey, whom he married October 20, 1973; his children, Jared (Marcie) Dickey of Norton and Beth (William) Nicholas of Brookfield; a sister, Kathleen (Felix) Lopez of Vienna; brothers, Michael (Angie) A. Dickey of Liberty and Robert C. Dickey of Springfield, TN; and his 4 grandchildren, Jack Nicholas, and Samson, Solomon, and Simon Dickey. He also leaves a very lonely dog named Lucy who will miss sharing pancakes with him.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
